After Dental Implants

Dental implant treatment is now one of the largest growth areas in modern dentistry. They are the gold standard for the replacement of missing teeth, offering a fixed and stable foundation onto which crowns and/or bridgework can be attached and supported. With care and attention these new restorations look, feel and perform as close to natural teeth as is humanly possible.

With careful planning and preparation the procedure is now as routine and straightforward as many of the other procedures on offer today. In fact most implant patients are pleasantly surprised at the ease with which the treatment is carried out and the lack of after effects after the implants have been placed. For patients who may still be a little apprehensive we offer sedation techniques to help relax them throughout the procedure.

Prior to the treatment we complete a full assessment of your mouth, teeth and gums allowing us to provide you with an accurate plan for your treatment needs. We use the latest in-surgery technology to scan your teeth and mouth providing us with an accurate 3D image of your mouth. This allows us to accurately plan your treatment without any ‘surprises’.

Prior to treatment starting we discuss all the options available to you and will provide written confirmation of this along with an accurate assessment of the cost of your investment.

All our patients who are having implant/cosmetic treatments will have a consultation with the technician who will make their teeth. This gives you the opportunity to convey your desires and expectations directly to the specialist who will endeavour to give you the nicest possible smile.

Implants can be used in the following circumstances:

  • Replace missing single teeth.

  • Replace multiple missing teeth in any areas of the mouth. These can be next to each other or spread out throughout the mouth.

  • Full arch rehabilitation in patients who have no teeth in one or both of their jaws, or where they have multiple failing teeth which cannot be saved.

  • Stabilise loose, ill-fitting dentures.

We commonly use implants as part of a multi-treatment approach in rehabilitating your mouth, gums and teeth and will only provide them where we feel there is an excellent long term prognosis and in patients who are committed to achieving and maintaining good oral health.

Common Causes for tooth loss where implants can be placed:

  • Trauma/injury where the crown and/or root of the tooth is too badly damaged to be saved.

  • Damage to an existing crown(s)/bridgework/filling(s) which means the tooth cannot be saved. Commonly these cases involve front teeth which have been root treated and have a post/pin to help retain a crown or bridgework. Usually the root of the tooth has split and the tooth has become infected.

  • Gum disease where the tooth becomes loose and no longer functions effectively.

  • Infection around a tooth.

The above points are only designed to give you a general overview of the treatments we provide. For more information please contact reception on 0141 423 5161 to arrange a consultation.
